The state Department of Transportation Airports Division announced recently that five airports on Maui, Molokai and Lanai will receive just over $11 million in COVID-19 relief funds.
A total of 12 state airports will get $46.3 million in Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations, which support the operational costs of reducing health hazards at airports. The act also provides concessions grant funds that will be used to provide aid, such as economic relief from rent and minimum annual guarantees, to airport concessionaries and other service providers.
The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport will receive the most funding in the state at $17.3 million, with an additional $2.1 million for concessions. Kahului Airport will receive the second-most funding at $8.2 million, with about $800,000 more for concessions.
Grant awards for airports across Maui, Molokai and Lanai are as follows:
- Kahului Airport, $8,213,524; $812,106 for concessions.
- Molokai Airport, $1,017,411; $10,977 for concessions.
- Lanai Airport, $1,016,495; $10,399 for concessions.
- Hana Airport, $9,000.
- Kalaupapa Airport, $9,000.
The DOT previously offered rent deferral to airport tenants between April 1 and Oct. 31, 2020, to offset the decline in air traffic, and waived landing fees for Molokai and Lanai airports for a one-year period starting March 1.
