Oregon Department of Aviation Signs MOU with Cellen H2 to Explore Hydrogen-Powered Uncrewed Aircraft Systems

(Cellen) to explore the use of hydrogen fuel cellpowered Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the National Airspace System for commercial and civil operations across Oregon. The agreement outlines a collaborative effort to assess and advance the operational feasibility of hydrogen-powered UAS platforms to support business-to-business logistics, critical medical deliveries, wide-area mapping and surveying, and search and rescue missions—particularly in rural and geographically diverse regions of the state. “Oregon’s landscape and distance between communities require innovative approaches to connectivity and service delivery,” said Kenji Sugahara, Director of the Oregon Department of Aviation. “This partnership allows us to evaluate how hydrogen-powered aircraft systems can support long-range missions safely, efficiently, and with zero emissions.” Advanced Hydrogen Technology for Extended Missions Cellen is a US-based aerospace company specializing in design and manufacture of hydrogen fuel cell-powered unmanned aircraft systems designed for extended endurance operations. Its platforms are capable of flights exceeding two hours while carrying payloads up to 10 pounds. The systems are designed to be NDAA compliant, produce low vibration and noise, and operate with no in-flight emissions using modular hydrogen refueling technology. “Working with the Oregon Department of Aviation to explore real-world hydrogen-powered UAS missions is an important step in proving what this technology can do for communities,” said Roberto Yelin, CEO and Co-Founder, Cellen. “With H2-6, our goal is to enable operators to fly farther, for longer, and carry more capable payloads in support of critical services—while helping states like Oregon move toward more sustainable aviation.” The collaboration will allow ODAV and Cellen H2 to evaluate how these capabilities could support Oregon’s commercial operators, emergency response agencies, and industry partners seeking long-range, sustainable UAS solutions. Scope of the Partnership Under the MOU, ODAV and Cellen H2 will work together on: Research, testing, and evaluation of hydrogen-powered BVLOS UAS platforms Joint field demonstrations and flight tests Engagement with Oregon communities and industry stakeholders Statewide UAS strategy planning and workforce pipeline development The MOU is non-binding and does not authorize operational deployment or confer exclusivity. It establishes a cooperative framework for exploration and evaluation only. The agreement is effective for one year and may be extended by mutual agreement. No exchange of funds is contemplated under this MOU.
MSP Begins Redevelopment Efforts for Terminal 1 Concessions; Seeks New Businesses to Attend Upcoming Information Sessions

This summer, the MAC will release a request for proposals (RFP) including more than 45 food, beverage and retail spaces across Terminal 1, which serves hub carrier Delta Air Lines and 10 other airlines. In preparation for the RFP release, the MAC is hosting a series of information sessions designed to help local and small business owners understand the RFP process and learn what is involved in operating at MSP. “The MAC is proud of its strong partnerships with local entrepreneurs, and we’re committed to expanding opportunities for homegrown businesses to thrive at MSP, which serves more than 36 million travelers each year,” said Isabella Rhawie, MAC vice president and commercial revenue officer. “This is a prime opportunity for Minnesota-based small and emerging businesses to broaden their reach within an award-winning concessions program at one of the nation’s largest airports.” The MSP concessions program encompasses approximately 125 venues across two terminals. Collier Trophy. This award honors the team’s achievement in completing the first fully successful commercial lunar landing and operating several NASA payloads, marking a significant advancement in the economics and accessibility of space between Earth and the Moon. The NAA has awarded the Robert J. Collier Trophy annually since 1911 for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year. “In a year defined by transformative leaps in autonomy, Blue Ghost Mission 1 stood out,” said Jim Albaugh, NAA Board Chair. “By successfully delivering and operating critical science on the lunar surface, they have proven that the commercial sector is ready to lead the way in our return to the Moon. Aviation Industry Expresses Concern About Proposed Burke Lakefront Closure

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) joined a number of other aviation industry organizations to express concern about Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb’s proposal to close Burke Lakefront Airport. AOPA, along with the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS), and Signature Aviation met with staff for Senators Jon Husted (R-Ohio) and Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) on March 17. “We appreciate Senators Husted and Moreno and their staff for continuing to engage with businesses and schools at the airport, and the aviation industry at large on the future of Burke Lakefront Airport,” said AOPA Great Lakes Regional Manager Kyle Lewis. “Airports are a finite resource, and the vast majority—including Burke Lakefront—are protected by federal law,” said Lewis. “This attempt to circumvent the law is both unprecedented and unfair, and the mayor’s claim to have universal support for closing the airport is misleading.” A spokesperson for Husted’s office told Fox 8 News, “Senator Husted is open to considering an alternative use for the airport property. However, at this time, no alternative plan has been presented for review. This would be a significant change to the downtown landscape, and any plan would need to be widely supported by the entire Cleveland community.” The Lakefront Airport Preservation Partnership—comprised of AOPA, as well as local businesses, aviation organizations, and schools at the airport—continues to be open to exploring alternative uses for the airport property and believes the city of Cleveland should work with the FAA to develop an Airport Master Plan. “Master plans are in place at airports across the country and would provide an unbiased path forward that takes the needs and concerns of all parties into consideration,” said Lewis. “We believe that process will show what the LAPP has said all along—that the best outcome for Cleveland is keeping the airport open while exploring the possibility of opening compatible land for new development.”

Dassault Aviation Unveils New Top of the Line Falcon 10X

In a dramatic unveiling before more than 400 customers, partners and aviation leaders gathered in a new production hall in Bordeaux-Mérignac, Dassault Aviation rolled out the Falcon 10X—its most ambitious business jet ever. As the drape lifted at 8:00 p.m. CET, the aircraft emerged as a bold new benchmark for the future of long-range business aviation. The Falcon 10X introduces the largest, most comfortable, and most versatile cabin ever designed in a purpose-built business jet—redefining what passengers can expect from time spent in the air. “The objective,” says Dassault President & CEO Eric Trappier, “is to allow passengers to experience time on board the aircraft as just another part of their everyday life, not as a long interval between origin and destination. So they arrive feeling refreshed and at their very best.” The aircraft’s spacious interior is eight inches wider and two inches taller than its nearest competitor, enabling owners to design interiors that feel less like a traditional aircraft cabin and more like a modern living or working environment. A New Benchmark in Business Aviation Delivering that level of comfort while maintaining the efficiency and operational flexibility that define Falcon aircraft, required innovation across nearly every aspect of the airplane. Engineers applied expertise drawn from the company’s cutting-edge military aircraft programs to advance aerodynamics, materials, avionics and flight controls. Dassault remains the only manufacturer in the world designing and building both advanced fighter jets and business aircraft—a cross disciplinary advantage now reflected in the Falcon 10X. The Falcon 10X will cruise at speeds approaching the sound barrier with a top speed of .925 Mach and has a maximum range of 7,500 nm, allowing it to easily connect the world most popular city pairs such as New York to Shanghai, Los Angeles to Sydney, São Paulo to Dubai or Beijing to Paris. Passenger comfort was engineered with equal ambition. At a cruising altitude of 41,000 feet, cabin pressure will be maintained at an exceptionally low 3,000 feet, complemented by 100 percent fresh air continuously renewed throughout the cabin and individually adjustable temperature zones. The 10X’s entirely new fuselage comes with 38 extra-large windows—nearly 50 percent larger than those on the Falcon 8X—flood the cabin with natural light, making it the brightest cabin in business aviation. Measuring 9 feet, 1 inch wide (2.77 m) and 6-feet, 8 inches tall (2.03 m), the cabin is larger than some regional jets. Customers can configure three- or four-zone interiors including expansive dining areas, Falcon Privacy Suites, full-size bedrooms, and even optional shower installations. A Wing Built for the Future At the heart of the Falcon 10X is business aviation’s first all-composite wing. The advanced structure combines traditional Dassault high-lift devices—slats and flaps—with a next generation composite architecture that improves aerodynamic efficiency while reducing weight. The result is a wing that supports the aircraft’s large cabin while maintaining the agility and runway flexibility that Falcon aircraft are known for. “Dassault Falcons have always been at the vanguard of business aviation,” noted Trappier, “and the 10X is no exception, embodying the very best technology available today. From the user perspective, the equation is simple: an objectively better experience.” A Flight Deck that Thinks Ahead The Falcon 10X introduces the NeXus flight deck, the most advanced cockpit ever installed in a business jet. Miles O’brien and Hayley Edmonds, ceremony hosts, with Dirk Geisinger, CEO of Rolls-Royce. Designed to reduce pilot workload and enhance situational awareness—especially during demanding phases of flight—the NeXus cockpit integrates large touch-screen displays with new automation tools that help crews manage complex missions with greater confidence. A standard dual FalconEye Enhanced Vision System adds further safety and capability in low visibility, with new features that aid in the most complex maneuvers, such as night circling approaches. The Falcon 10X also introduces the third generation of Dassault’s digital flight-control system in a business aircraft. Integrated with a Smart Throttle, inspired by the controls of the Rafale fighter, the system automatically manages both engines through a single control while assisting pilots with functions such as noise-abatement climbs and stabilized go-arounds. These combined digital capabilities make possible the first automatic recovery mode in a large business jet, further extending the safety envelope. Dassault pioneered fly-by-wire flight controls in business aviation with the Falcon 7X in 2007— technology that prevents overspeeding, overstressing or stalling the aircraft while delivering the smooth flying qualities that Falcon owners value. More Power and a greater flying level of efficiency The new Pearl 10X engine features the Advance2 engine core, the most efficient core available across the business aviation sector, and combines it with a high-performance low-pressure system, resulting in a superior thrust of more than 18,000 lb. The Pearl 10X offers a step-change in power and efficiency, while delivering outstanding low noise and emissions performance. This combination will enable operators to have premium airport accessibility and fly ultra-long-range connections, whilst also being able to travel close to the speed of sound. “Today is a very special day for Rolls-Royce and the team.
