2nd Lt. Peter Slocombe has been named the newest commander of the Vermont Wing’s Burlington Squadron (VT-002), according to a statement by Col. Rick Lizzari, Commander of the Wing. Slocombe succeeds Captain Charles Dalch, who will continue to be active in the Wing’s emergency services and administrative roles.
“Peter takes command of the largest squadron in the Vermont Wing, one that is in excellent shape in terms of readiness, active membership participation and growth, thanks to Charlie’s hard work and leadership over the past four years,” said Lizzari. “Peter is well prepared by virtue of his training and personality to take command.”
Slocombe is a licensed private pilot and owner of a 1970 Piper Cherokee; and brings a lifelong passion for aerospace and public service to the role. A resident of Vermont for over 16 years, he is a graduate of Washington State University and earned a law degree from the University of Idaho. He now works at the Department of Homeland Security following his tenure at the Department of Justice.
“My leadership of the Burlington Squadron will rely greatly on guidance from Charlie Dalch, the Wing leadership and of course our members; and I am grateful to have been selected for this incredible opportunity,” said Slocombe. “In particular, I hope to bolster our emergency services readiness with an emphasis on aerospace education activities, as well as professional development.”
The latter, Slocombe noted, remains a proven and important approach for CAP members to accrue new skills in communications and many other technologies, as well as in leadership, management, and other areas.
Earlier, Slocombe served as the Squadron’s Emergency Services Officer. He is the recipient of the Civil Air Patrol’s General Chuck Yeager Award, for accomplishment in aerospace education; and the Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Award, for his work in professional development.
