Lift Off! Your Vision, Your Art, in the 2025 Aviation Art Contest

Grab your colored pencils, crayons, and paints and let your imagination take flight!

The N.C. Department of Transportation is soaring into the 2025 Aviation Art Contest, and this year’s theme, “Women with Wings,” is all about celebrating the pioneering women who were trailblazers in aviation, such as pilots, skydivers or women who built and maintained aircraft.  This year’s contest gives students from elementary school to high school the opportunity to showcase how women from all walks of life have made their mark in the air.

“This year’s theme, Women with Wings, gives students the perfect opportunity to explore both history and imagination,” said Becca Gallas, Director of NCDOT Division of Aviation. “We encourage all students to join in, get creative and honor the inspiring women who have taken flight in aviation’s storied history.”

North Carolina students born between Jan. 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2018, are eligible to submit entries in one of three age groups: junior (ages 6-9), intermediate (ages 10-13) and senior (ages 14-17).

Cash prizes, provided by the North Carolina Airports Association, will be awarded to the top three students in each age group and their schools.

Entries for North Carolina’s contest must be received by Jan. 17, 2024.

The artwork of the three North Carolina winners in each age group will advance to the national competition, hosted by the National Association of State Aviation Officials in Washington D.C. National winners are submitted to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale’s headquarters in Switzerland for the international contest.
