Boca Raton Airport Receives $805,000 Federal Grant to Replace AWOS

The Boca Raton Airport Authority has received more than $805,000 in federal grants to replace their Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). 

In recent years, the existing AWOS has become increasingly unreliable, leading to extended periods of outages and necessitating substantial maintenance to keep it operational. The new, relocated, AWOS, will provide more reliable weather readings for air traffic controllers and pilots, while also being more cost-efficient to maintain.

“I would like to thank Congresswoman Lois Frankel and Congressman Jared Moskowitz for their support in securing this FAA grant for the airport,” states Clara Bennett, Executive Director of the BRAA. “We are pleased to continue to modernize BCT’s equipment and facilities and enhance our airport’s safety and efficiency.”

Kim Stevens is the publisher of State Aviation Journal, which he founded in 2009. A longtime commercial-rated pilot, he was introduced to state aviation in 1992 as Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, later serving as Deputy Division Director for the Arizona Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division. From 2013 to 2018, he was Director of Communications and Operations for the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) in Washington, D.C. Relocating to North Carolina, Kim worked for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for two years and now concentrates solely on the Journal. Prior to his aviation career, Kim spent a decade in the newspaper and magazine business.
