This is an exciting year for the Boca Raton Airport (BCT), as it celebrates both the 5th anniversary of its U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility and the 75th anniversary of the airport’s official founding. The CBP facility at the BCT first opened its doors five years ago on Wednesday, May 31, 2018. Since its opening, the CBP facility has cleared approximately 7,832 international flights and welcomed visitors from nearly 70 countries to Boca Raton.
The modern, 4,400-square-foot, state-of-the-art federal inspection facility is designed to meet all Department of Homeland Security standards for international arrivals. The facility is staffed by federal law enforcement officers with access to a trained K-9 unit to assure the highest safety and security standards. In addition to providing Customs clearings to international flights, the facility also participates in the Small Vessel Reporting System and conducts federal inspections for boaters.
Prior to the CBP facility’s opening, international travelers going to the BCT would first have to travel over 20 miles to go through Customs at other South Florida airports. This made the process of travelling to Boca Raton more tedious and unappealing. By enabling the Customs procedure to be completed in Boca Raton directly, the CBP facility has reduced the number of low altitude flights over surrounding neighborhoods. The CBP facility has made Boca Raton a more accessible location for visitors from around the world and helped to enhance the city’s tourism.
“International travel has become a much easier, stress-free process since the opening of our customs facility in 2018,” said Boca Raton Airport Authority Executive Director Clara Bennett. “Over these past five years, the Customs facility has highlighted Boca Raton’s global appeal and has become an invaluable asset to the airport’s tenants and users.”
Thanks to the CBP facility, the BCT looks forward to welcoming more international guests with ease.
