On July 24th, the Colorado Division of Aeronautics hosted an aviation contingent from Alabama for a tour and briefing on the Colorado Remote Tower Project at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland, Colorado.  This innovative partnership between the Division, FAA and Searidge Technologies is developing the world’s first remote air traffic control tower solution that will combine visual/camera information and radar/track based data to provide airport air traffic services at a fraction of the cost of developing, constructing and maintaining a traditional control tower facility.  Dr. John Eagerton, Director of the Alabama DOT’s Aeronautics Bureau, was joined by Dr. Bill Hutto, Director of the Auburn University Airport and Aviation Center Director at Auburn University, Todd Storey, Assistant Director, Auburn University Airport and Aviation Center Director at Auburn University.

The briefing and tour offered background into the project, frank conversation about the project’s challenges and opportunities, and a robust discussion about how the technology might benefit Auburn University’s Aviation Program and the Auburn Airport.  David Ulane, Colorado Aeronautics Director and Dr. Eagerton also enjoyed a wide-ranging discussion about a variety of National Association of State Aviation (NASAO) topics, issues and other national aviation matters.
