At their 34th Annual Awards Ceremony held on October 8th the FAA’s Northwest Mountain Region presented Colorado Division of Aeronautics Director, David Ulane, with the region’s 2020 Aviation/Aerospace Partnership Award. This award recognizes an outside agency, organization or individual who makes a significant contribution to aviation safety and the accomplishment of the FAA’s Flight Plan objectives. The recipient recognizes the need for customer service in meeting the needs of their organization, as well as reflecting favorably on the FAA and their mission.
Ulane received the award for his leadership and collaboration with FAA to bring aviation weather cameras to Colorado, making the state the first outside of Alaska with these cameras.
In accepting the award, Ulane noted, “this recognition of our pioneering and innovative culture at the Division is not just mine- it is that of the entire Division team.” Ulane particularly identified the efforts of Division Program Manager Todd Green who was instrumental in working with FAA and OIT to coordinate the camera installations, and of Shahn Sederberg, whose detailed visual site surveys eliminated the need for an entire FAA pre-installation trip to Colorado. “This award also reflects highly on the outstanding leadership of our Division by the Colorado Aeronautical Board, whose foresight and consistent support for aviation safety initiatives like this has been unwavering,” said Ulane.
The Division is already working to build on the success of this year’s effort and is working with FAA on Phase II of the Weather Camera Program to bring camera functionality to a select group of Colorado airports in 2021.
