The Colorado Aeronautical Board (CAB) approved the FY2022 state and locally funded discretionary aviation grants for Colorado airports during a February 1, 2022, CAB meeting. The unanimous decision authorized the distribution of $5.5 million in state aviation fuel tax revenues through grants to 12 Colorado public-use airports under the Colorado Discretionary Aviation Grant (CDAG) Program administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Division of Aeronautics.
The grants ranged in size from $25,000 to $3 million. This year’s grant awards were categorized into six different project types including pavement maintenance and rehabilitation projects, a fuel farm installation, emergency access enhancements, and planning/design services. Over 60% of this year’s discretionary aviation grant awards were allocated for two runway rehabilitation projects at Steamboat Springs Municipal Airport (SBS) and Creede-Mineral County Memorial Airport (C24).

“The Colorado Division of Aeronautics is committed to supporting Colorado’s multi-modal transportation system by assisting Colorado’s airports through the funding of critical projects. This program allows us to continue to advance a safe, efficient, and effective statewide aviation system,” said Aeronautics Division Director David Ulane.
“The Colorado Aeronautical Board (CAB) is pleased to approve these critical airport grants that continue to raise the bar of our state’s airport infrastructure and emergency access,” said CAB Chairman Kenneth Maenpa.
The Colorado Aeronautical Board (CAB) is scheduled to meet on April 13, 2022, for the 2022 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) matching grant hearings. This second round of discretionary aviation grants will be allocated to support a number of federally funded airport projects.
