DORGAN APPLAUDS FAA ACTION ON AIRLINE SAFETY

As Chairman of Aviation subcommittee, Dorgan held a series of hearings highlighting the need for improved airline safety

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), Chairman of the Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security panel, today applauded the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) quick action to examine airline safety issues with the formation of an Aviation Rulemaking Committee.

After the crash of Continental Connection flight 3407, Dorgan chaired a series of hearings on airline safety, where he pressed the FAA, other federal agencies and airline companies to examine safety issues such as pilot training and records, rest time, pilot salaries, commuting and more. He said today’s announcement by the FAA is a good first step toward strengthening the air safety issues he raised in his hearings.

“The FAA is doing the right thing by examining training, crew rest, and the other issues raised in the hearings I chaired on aviation safety,” said Dorgan. “I’m pleased the FAA is quickly taking action to determine what can be done to improve safety throughout the airline industry.”
