Flying Musicians Association Opens 2024 Scholarships

Here’s how you can help the Flying Musicians Association (FMA) and country music star Aaron Tippin (“the luckiest hillbilly that has ever lived”) create more pilots.

The Flying Musicians Association (FMA) has two unique programs for student musicians who want to join the pilot ranks and aviators who are musicians wanting to enhance their craft. FMA is accepting nominees for the FMA Solo Learn to Fly program and applications for the FMA Swing Wing scholarship to the New York Hot Jazz Camp.

“Flying and music are my two passions in life, and the Flying Musicians have put both of those together for a great cause,” said Aaron Tippin. “I believe educating the next generation is so important for music and aviation to continue on.”

The FMA Solo Scholarship Program enters its tenth year having awarded fifteen scholarships to date. In addition to the scholarships, each nominee becomes a student member of the association. Through generous support of the aviation and music communities, all who complete the checklist receive welcome packages and their student membership is FREE for the duration of their academic career.

The Flying Musicians Swing Wing Scholarship is open to all members of FMA between the ages of 18 and 28 (exception can be made for members under 18 with parental consent). The scholarship is awarded annually to attend the New York Hot Jazz Camp. Visit Flying Musicians Swing Wing page for details.

FMA President/CEO John Zapp said, “FMA members love assisting others who share our passions of flying and music. To be able to assist and watch our student members grow through aviation and music while inspiring and assisting others is such a rewarding experience. The program has assisted many students who remain engaged. There are now many additional private pilots that have come from this program.” Zapp noted, “We are also looking for those in the aviation and music industry who want to jump on the FMA Bandwagon to be a part of this opportunity to grow future pilots, musicians, and leaders – the right way.”

“I used to be in the band and also drum corps and I feel it made me a more focused and better person,” said Michael Wolf. “I feel it helped me become the President and CEO of Sporty’s Pilot Shop.”
