The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) recently announced the 2026 class of Distinguished Statesmen and Stateswomen of Aviation.
Established in 1954, this prestigious honor recognizes outstanding Americans who, through their dedicated efforts over many years, have made enduring contributions to aeronautics and spaceflight.
“The Distinguished Statesmen and Stateswomen of Aviation recognition reflects a lifetime of leadership, passion, and dedicated service to our nation’s aerospace community,” said Amy Spowart, President and CEO, NAA. “Each member of this elite class has left an indelible mark on aviation, whether through safety advocacy, world-record achievements, workforce protection, or sport development. Their collective achievements embody the spirit of progress and excellence that drives American aviation forward.”
The 2026 Distinguished Statesmen and Stateswomen of Aviation are:
- Kate Cooper-Jensen – For shattering over twenty world records in human flight, leading historic formation achievements, and raising millions for charitable causes through an inspiring, empowering legacy of service.
- Jeff Goin – For founding national powered paragliding governance, authoring world-leading educational reference manuals, and providing continuous leadership to advance safety and participation across air sports.
- Thomas Haines – For four decades of executive leadership, media excellence, and national advocacy that continues to inspire pilots to fly safely and with passion across general aviation.
- Sara Nelson – For transformative leadership advancing aviation safety, workforce protections, and national resilience through principled advocacy that strengthens the air transportation system for workers and passengers alike.
- Brian Utley- For decades of dedicated service, leadership, and technical stewardship advancing soaring flight, official record validation, and international air sports governance.
The 2026 Distinguished Statesmen and Stateswomen of Aviation will be formally recognized at the NAA’s Fall Awards Dinner on November 5, 2026, in Washington, D.C. The evening brings together aerospace leaders, military officials, and aviation enthusiasts to celebrate the industry’s finest achievements.
