Minot International and New Town Municipal Receive North Dakota 2025 Airport of the Year Awards

The Minot International Airport has been named North Dakota’s 2025 Commercial Service Airport of the Year, while the New Town Municipal Airport has been recognized as the 2025 General Aviation Airport of the Year. These awards were presented during the North Dakota Aviation Association’s FLY-ND Conference awards banquet, held in Minot on March 10th, 2025. Sponsored annually by the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission in partnership with the Airport Association of North Dakota, these awards recognize airports that demonstrate excellence in community outreach, facility management, infrastructure improvements, and the hosting of special events. Both the Minot International Airport and the New Town Municipal Airport have exemplified outstanding commitment to aviation, economic development, and service to their communities, making them deserving recipients of this year’s honors. The Minot International Airport receives the 2025 Commercial Service Airport of the Year award during the North Dakota Aviation Association’s FLY-ND Conference awards banquet on March 10th, 2025. Throughout 2025, the airport remained engaged with its community, hosting educational tours for local students and welcoming service organizations and civic groups into the aviation environment. The airport also supported several meaningful community initiatives, including a potluck and food drive to assist federal employees during the government shutdown. Memorable events throughout the year included multiple Make-A-Wish adventure send-offs and the airport’s first North Dakota Honor Flight. Safety continues to be a defining priority for Minot International Airport. In 2025, the airport conducted its triennial full-scale disaster response exercise in coordination with local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS providers, and regional hospitals. More than 100 volunteers participated as simulated victims, allowing emergency responders and medical personnel to test coordination and response procedures during a large-scale aviation emergency. Additional safety initiatives included fuel-spill response training, winter operations exercises, and continued investment in employee training and development. Over the past year, the Minot International also advanced key infrastructure improvements that enhance both safety and passenger experience. The airport completed a multi-year project to mitigate wetlands and improve drainage across the airfield, reducing wildlife hazards and strengthening operational safety. Inside the terminal, a new public address system replaced aging equipment, restoring clear building-wide communication and ensuring reliable messaging for operational updates and emergency notifications. This recognition highlights Minot International Airport’s continued dedication to serving the region through strong community partnerships, a culture of safety, and strategic investments that support the future of aviation in North Dakota. 2025 General Aviation Airport Award The New Town Municipal Airport has been recognized for its leadership in strengthening aviation infrastructure, expanding emergency access, and fostering a strong connection between the airport and the surrounding community. The New Town Municipal Airport receives the 2025 General Aviation Airport of the Year award during the North Dakota Aviation Association’s FLY-ND Conference awards banquet on March 10th, 2025. In 2025, the airport completed a 300-foot runway extension, bringing the total runway length to 3,740 feet. This improvement expands the range of aircraft able to safely operate at the airport, including critical air medical aircraft such as the Beechcraft King Air 200 and the Pilatus PC‑12. With these capabilities, New Town Municipal Airport now provides an enhanced level of emergency access for the region, enabling faster patient transport and improved connectivity to medical facilities when time is most critical. The project also reflects strong local leadership and investment. More than 90 percent of the project funding was secured through local sources, including $300,000 contributed by the airport and the City of New Town, along with a $1.25 million grant from the Mountrail County Job Development Authority. This collaborative effort demonstrates the community’s commitment to maintaining a safe and capable aviation facility that serves both residents and regional transportation needs. The New Town Municipal Airport also maintains a vibrant relationship with the community it serves. Each year the airport hosts a fly-in and pancake breakfast that attracts hundreds of visitors and aviation enthusiasts. The event has featured aircraft fly-bys from historic warbirds associated with the Dakota Territory Air Museum and offers members of the public an opportunity to experience aviation firsthand. Local pilots also volunteer their time to provide complimentary discovery flights for individuals interested in learning to fly. These outreach efforts have helped cultivate a growing aviation culture within the community. In recent years, the airport has welcomed new pilots, increased aircraft activity, and expanded local interest in aviation—demonstrating how a community-focused airport can serve as both a transportation asset and a gateway to the next generation of aviators.
Pilots Complete “Fly North Dakota Airports” Passport Program

Multiple pilots were recently presented with awards for participating in the “Fly North Dakota Airports” Passport Program. This program began in North Dakota in 2011 and it rewards pilots who fly to North Dakota’s publicly owned airports, attend FAA safety seminars, and visit North Dakota’s aviation museums. This program promotes safety, continuing education, and encourages pilots to practice approaches and landings in many different environments. This program also offers an opportunity to promote and support North Dakota’s airports and their community businesses and tourism opportunities. These pilots join the 114 others who have completed the passport program in previous years, making a grand total of 120 pilots who have achieved the gold award since the program’s inception. FAA Unveils Eight Selections for Pilot Program Testing Next-Gen Aircraft in America’s Skies

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced eight proposals were selected as part of the brand-new Advanced Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Integration Pilot Program (eIPP). eVTOLs are futuristic aircraft that have the potential to generate new jobs, connect communities, and strengthen American leadership in aviation. This first-of-its-kind program, which was outlined in President Trump’s Unleashing Drone Dominance Executive Order, is accelerating the safe integration of next-generation Advanced Air Mobility aircraft into the national airspace and ensuring the United States leads the way in aviation innovation. Click to watch the announcement video Together, these pilot projects will create one of the largest real-world testing environments for next-generation aircraft in the world. In addition to offering the American people an exciting window into the future of aviation, data from the pilot projects will be used by the FAA to develop new regulations that safely enable this futuristic technology at scale. The American public will start to see operations begin under this program by summer 2026. The eight selected projects span 26 states and involve leading aircraft manufacturers, operators, and state partners. They include a range of operational concepts, including: Urban air taxi services Regional passenger transportation (including short Takeoff and Landing aircraft) Cargo and logistics networks Emergency medical response operations Autonomous flight technologies Offshore and energy-sector transportation “Thanks to President Trump, the future of aviation is here — and it’s going to dramatically improve how people and products move,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “Congratulations to the great American innovators behind each of these exciting pilot programs. Working together, we will ensure America leads the way in safely leveraging next-gen aircraft to radically redefine personal travel, regional transportation, cargo logistics, emergency medicine, and so much more.” “These partnerships will help us better understand how to safely and efficiently integrate these aircraft into the National Airspace System,” said FAA Deputy Administrator Chris Rocheleau. “The program will provide valuable operational experience that will inform the standards needed to enable safe Advanced Air Mobility operations. We appreciate the strong interest reflected in the many proposals we received.” Specifics on Selected Projects The following projects were selected to participate in the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program: Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Multiple industry partners will collaborate on 12 different operational concepts across New England, including eVTOL passenger operations at the Manhattan heliport. Partners: Archer, BETA, Electra, Joby Texas Department of Transportation Industry partners will support regional flights connecting Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and eventually Houston, with air taxi networks expanding from each city to extend regional reach. Partners: Archer, BETA, Joby, Wisk Utah Department of Transportation Four states spanning the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, and the Plains of Oklahoma will test a wide range of next-generation aircraft and operational concepts. Partners: Ampaire, BETA, Joby, Other Pennsylvania Department of Transportation The NASAO AAM Multistate Collaborative will work across 13 states to revitalize regional flights across the country, including routes similar to those supported through the Essential Air Service program. Partners: BETA, Electra, Other Louisiana Operations will test cargo and personnel transportation capabilities to enable flights over the high seas into the Gulf of America and to energy industry locations in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. Partners: BETA, Elroy Air, Other Florida Department of Transportation A statewide effort featuring multiple industry partners will include three phases of operations focused on cargo delivery, passenger transportation, automation, and medical response, supported by significant public and private investment. Partners: Archer, BETA, Electra, Joby, Other North Carolina Department of Transportation Working with industry partners to establish piloted medical and regional operations across the state while also developing an autonomous flight operation extending into Virginia. Partners: BETA, Joby, Other City of Albuquerque A focused project designed to achieve early advances in autonomous operations through an existing partnership with an advanced autonomy developer already operating in the region and coordinating with the FAA. Partner: Reliable Robotics Background The Advanced Air Mobility and eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (e-IPP) received more than 30 proposals from across the country. Submissions were evaluated by a technical review team from DOT and FAA. Proposals were assessed based on their ability to accelerate the integration of Advanced Air Mobility aircraft, the breadth of operational concepts proposed, potential regulatory and policy insights, experience in aircraft development or manufacturing, and the strength of industry, academic, and government partnerships. Following this review process, the eight projects listed above were selected to advance the next phase of the program.

Kaizen Aerospace and Uzbekistan Ministry of Agriculture Sign Memorandum to Advance Agricultural Drone Collaboration

Kaizen Aerospace, Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Scientific-Design Institute “Oʻzdavyerloyiha” to explore the development and implementation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies in Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector. The memorandum outlines a framework for collaboration focused on modernizing agricultural practices through drone-based solutions. Areas of cooperation include professional training programs, joint scientific research, methodology development, and the establishment of infrastructure to support UAV deployment. As part of the framework, the parties intend to explore: Establishing a UAV training and professional development center Conducting online and in-person seminars and knowledge exchange programs Creating a technical maintenance and service center for UAVs Developing methodologies for effective drone usage in agriculture Evaluating the potential use of drones across up to 300,000 hectares of intensively cultivated cotton fields The Uzbek partners would be responsible for providing local servicing infrastructure and agricultural inputs, while Kaizen Aerospace would contribute drone technology expertise and operational know-how. The Memorandum of Cooperation is non-binding and serves as a foundation for further discussions and potential definitive agreements. It does not create financial commitments or legally binding obligations between the parties. Air Canada and CAE Announce Eight Recipients of the Captain Judy Cameron Scholarship

Air Canada and CAE, two of Canada’s premiere aerospace companies headquartered in Montréal, announced the eight recipients of the seventh edition of the Air Canada and CAE Captain Judy Cameron Scholarship. Every year, up to eight Canadian women studying to become commercial pilots or aircraft maintenance engineers are awarded scholarships to pursue their training.
