NAHF Honors the National Air Traffic Controllers Association with the 2026 Milton Caniff Spirit of Flight Award

The National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF) announced that the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Milton Caniff Spirit of Flight Award. This distinguished honor recognizes NATCA’s enduring commitment to aviation safety, professionalism, and public service, as well as its vital role in advancing the nation’s air traffic control system.

Representing nearly 20,000 aviation safety professionals, NATCA has long been a leading advocate for modernizing and enhancing the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System. Through engagement with industry, government partners, and policymakers, NATCA has helped advance technology, training, and workforce development while ensuring the highest safety standards for the flying public. The union, which is approaching its 40th anniversary, has served as a fierce advocate for its members as they have worked through historic shutdowns without pay while maintaining the safety of the National Airspace System. At the same time, NATCA members continue to maintain the busiest and most complex airspace in the world with the highest safety standards, even amid aging infrastructure.

NATCA’s leadership in promoting safety initiatives, operational excellence, and the well-being of air traffic professionals has strengthened the foundation of U.S. aviation. Its commitment to innovation, collaboration, and service reflects a deep understanding that a safe and resilient aviation system is essential to economic growth, national security, and global connectivity.

“The National Aviation Hall of Fame is honored to recognize the National Air Traffic Controllers Association with the 2026 Milton Caniff Spirit of Flight Award,” said Aimee Maruyama, NAHF President and CEO. “NATCA’s dedication to safety, advocacy for its workforce, and leadership in advancing the nation’s air traffic control system exemplify the spirit of service and responsibility this award represents. Their work aligns closely with our mission to celebrate those who elevate aviation in service to all.”

NATCA President Nick Daniels expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization’s members for the recognition. “This honor belongs to the dedicated air traffic controllers, engineers, and other aviation safety professionals who serve the public every day,” Daniels said. “Our members are committed to keeping the flying public safe while supporting a modern, efficient, and resilient National Airspace System. We are proud to accept this award in recognition of their professionalism, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to aviation safety.”

The award will be presented at the President’s Reception on September 23, 2026, held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., as part of the NAHF’s 62nd annual Enshrinement Ceremony to be held the following evening, September 24, 2026, at The Anthem. Aviation leaders, industry stakeholders, and enthusiasts from across the country are expected to attend.
