Washington State Airports Manager Awarded Airport Manager of the Year by WAMA

WSDOT Aviation Division State Airports Manager Paul Wolf has been awarded the Washington Airport Managers Association (WAMA) Airport Manager of the Year for 2023.

Paul Wolf

“It was a unanimous decision to select Paul Wolf as our recipient of this year’s Airport Manager of the Year Award,” said WAMA Executive Director Marjy Leggett. “We all see what he does, the way he organizes work parties, the traveling across the state, and the attention he gives to these remote air strips. As a member who does an outstanding job of managing more airports than any other airport manager in the state, he deserves recognition. We are delighted to honor him.”

The award is given out once a year and voting members look for someone who has stood out over time in doing a job above and beyond and show leadership and consistency in the work they have done.

Wolf has been with WSDOT since 1996 and with the Aviation Division since 2008. “Throughout the years, Wolf has worked tirelessly to maintain these small, often remote airports around the state,” Leggett said. “We felt it was time he was recognized for the tremendous support he has given in keeping these small airports running. It was our way of saying thanks for all he does and letting him know how much we appreciate him.”

Wolf said he was honored to receive the award and noted he wanted to recognize many of those who have helped him.

“I couldn’t be prouder to have the honor and recognition from top aviation professionals and WAMA members,” Wolf said. “My acceptance of the award can only be justified by giving notice to all our volunteers from the Washington Pilots Association Chapters around the State, the Recreational Aviation Foundation, Pilots and our Regional Maintenance Crews whom have stuck with me through difficult pandemic times, our Real Estate, and Capital Program Management and Development Offices, and the Aviation Division staff that help me on a daily basis to keep the State Managed Airports operational. We have a lot of work to do to preserve and maintain these wonderful airports, but knowing I have the support from WAMA and my teams gives me the courage to get up every day and look forward to working with you all!”
