Virginia Aviation Director Receives Outstanding Leadership Award at Legislative Reception

The Virginia Aviation Business Association held its annual Aviation, Aerospace and Advanced Air Mobility Legislative Reception on January 29 at Main Street Station in Richmond.

Approximately 600 attendees came to participate in one of the largest legislative reception events during the General Assembly session. Industry leaders including NASA, the Virginia Department of Aviation, the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC), Virginia Spaceport Authority and many more presented exhibits at the event.

The legislative reception was attended by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, members of the Governor’s cabinet, legislators and their staffers. Gov. Youngkin delivered the keynote speech and participated in the presentation of the Outstanding Leadership Award and the Industry Impact Award.

Greg Campbell, Director of the Virginia Department of Aviation, was the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award. The recognition honors individuals who have shown exceptional dedication to the promotion and development of aviation and aerospace in Virginia. Campbell’s leadership over three years as Director has been innovative in modernizing the department and enhancing Virginia’s aviation infrastructure.

Tracy Tynan, Director for the Virginia Unmanned Systems Center at the VIPC received the Industry Impact Award. This prestigious award honors those whose transformative programs have led to notable economic growth, job creation and business expansion. Tynan’s efforts have been instrumental in positioning Virginia as a national leader in the rapidly growing field of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM).

The DOAV Public Relations and Education team of David Halstead, Kim Anderson, Betty Wilson and Tony Sotelo and (shown above ), staffed the DOAV exhibit and answered questions from attendees about the department and its mission. They provided guests with the 2025 Virginia aviation calendar as well as scholarship information and other giveaways.
