North Carolina Division of Aviation staff joined community leaders Thursday (Feb. 11) to cut the ribbon on a new 4,269 square foot terminal building at Tri-County Airport at Henry Joyner Field in Ahoskie. The general aviation airport serves business and leisure travelers in three rural, Tier One counties: Bertie, Hertford and Northampton. The $1.79 million project replaced an aging structure, built in 1979, and was funded with state and federal grants provided through the Division of Aviation’s grant programs.
Local businesses donated interior design, wall plaques and furnishings to save taxpayer dollars. The airport annually generates $1.5 million in economic output, supports 35 jobs that generate $213,000 in personal income, and contributes $4.47 million in state and local tax, based on 2019 data.
