Tom DeAveiro Joins NCDOT Division of Aviation Staff

Tom DeAveiro has joined the N.C. Department of Transportation as its new Aviation Safety and Preservation Engineer. In this role, DeAveiro will provide day-to-day administration of Maintenance Contracts and play a key role in establishing and maintaining Division Asset Management Systems through contracts and direct data collection. His responsibilities also extend to supporting the Division in matters related to statewide safety inspections, GIS support, and pavement condition reporting.

DeAveiro comes to the Division from the Transportation Engineering Associates program where he rotated through many units within NCDOT, including Aviation. DeAveiro is a graduate of the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

DeAveiro is the first of many new hires expected across the Division in the coming months as the agency expands staffing to meet increased workloads, particularly in the area of airport development. Some of the upcoming staffing opportunities include positions such as Project Managers, Planning, and UAS staff.

NCDOT Aviation promotes the economic well-being of North Carolina by developing a safe and robust air transportation system. As the state’s aviation authority, the Division manages state and federal airport development grant programs, the use of unmanned aircraft systems and advanced aviation, offers airport professional development programs, developed the next generation of talent and provides air transportation services that support state agency missions.

The upcoming openings represent critical positions that play pivotal roles in steering the Division towards sustained excellence and help the Division in its pursuit to continue to be a leader in innovation.
