2022 Iowa Aviation Economic Report Released

The Iowa DOT has released the 2022 Iowa Aviation Economic Report. The report highlights aviation’s uses in Iowa and quantifies its role in Iowa’s economy. Aviation activity generates $6.4 billion in economic impact every year. This includes $1.8 billion related to airport activity and $4.6 billion to businesses producing aircraft components and other aviation-related services. Even larger impacts are created through commerce supported by the movement of people and goods by air!

Information in the report is expected to assist aviation stakeholders, including local, state, and federal officials, in making informed decisions related to operations and investments in Iowa’s air transportation system. It will also be used in educating the public on the uses and benefits of aviation in Iowa. The full technical report, executive summary and other presentation materials are available on the Iowa DOT’s Aviation website. Individual reports for each airport are listed on their corresponding Airport Information page.

The Iowa DOT expressed their thanks to the airports, FBOs, airport tenants, aviation users, and Iowa businesses that participated and provided valuable data and insight on aviation in Iowa. The DOT also thanked the Federal Aviation Administration for their support of the project, and the entire Iowa DOT team that made this release possible. Finally, the agency thanked the consulting team that completed the study and developed the report on behalf of the Iowa DOT. The team at Jviation, a Woolpert Company, was professional, diligent, and willing to stretch to meet the needs of Iowa’s aviation community, businesses, and citizens.
