SOUTHWEST FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REPORTS RECORD JUNE TRAFFIC

During June, 528,383 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla., an increase of 7.3 percent compared to June 2016.  Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 2 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in June was Delta Air Lines with 132,106 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (112,396), American (93,912), JetBlue (66,610) and United (43,641).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 5,178 aircraft operations, an increase of 16.6 percent compared to June 2016. Page Field saw 6,130 operations, a 26.5 percent decrease from June 2016. In addition, slightly more than 2.5 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June 2017, an increase of 2.9 percent compared to June 2016.

Southwest Florida International Airport served 8.6 million passengers in 2016 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. Kim Stevens is the publisher of State Aviation Journal, which he founded in 2009. A longtime commercial-rated pilot, he was introduced to state aviation in 1992 as Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, later serving as Deputy Division Director for the Arizona Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division.
