August 24th was an exciting day at the Boca Raton Airport Authority (BRAA) as pilots and residents of the Boca Raton community attended the Annual Pilot Meeting held at the Boca Raton Airport.
The program was headlined by guest speaker Willard Shepard. Willard Shepard is a five-time Emmy award-winning journalist, attorney, and Gulf War fighter pilot. Shepard brought his unique insight to NBC 6 viewers as an anchor and investigative reporter for more than two decades. With an extensive background in the military and aviation, he was able to give the attendees an insight into his experiences. The attendees had the chance to ask Mr. Shepard questions about his experience in the aviation industry, military, and as a news anchor.
Other speakers included Robert Abbott, Finance and Administration Manager, and Travis Bryan, Operations Director at BRAA. Mr. Abbott gave a Noise Abatement Program update, which explained how airport management and pilots can work together to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on people living near the airports. Mr. Bryan provided an update on the current projects at the Airport. A few of the projects highlighted included the Airport Road Improvements, Security Enhancements, and Airfield Lighting Replacements projects.
As a community partner, the Boca Raton Airport Authority strives to give opportunities for pilots and residents of the Boca Community to learn more about the aviation industry from a variety of perspectives.
