Last Tuesday, May 17, 2022, General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) President and CEO, Pete Bunce, testified before the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Subcommittee on Aviation, in a hearing entitled, “Preparing for Take-Off: Examining Efforts to Address Climate Change at U.S. Airports”.
In his testimony, Bunce described the efforts which business and general aviation manufacturing companies and maintenance and service providers have undertaken to support environmental sustainability and address climate change. This included manufacturing and technology advancements which produce and deliver products that are sustainable and more efficient than their predecessors, and renewed efforts to address aircraft emissions in business and general aviation, such as with the increased production and uptake of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). Bunce also championed the emerging Advanced Air Mobility sector which may foster sustainable transportation. Additionally, he commended Chair Larsen and Ranking Member Graves for convening the hearing and prioritizing and working with aviation stakeholders to examine the resources and programs needed to achieve a more sustainable aviation future.
During the hearing, Bunce highlighted the industry’s collaborative sustainability work on the Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions (EAGLE) initiative, spurring investments in innovation and technological advancements, and reducing aviation noise. He also stressed the need for clearer understanding of the infrastructure for and certification of advanced air mobility aircraft and reducing the rulemaking and policy and guidance backlog at the FAA.
