Vaisala Signs Agreement to Divest U.S. Transportation Field Services and U.S. AWOS

On June 21, 2016, Vaisala signed an Asset Purchase Agreement with DBT Transportation Services L.L.C. (DBT). The agreement includes the following products and services being purchased by DBT from Vaisala:

• U.S. Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS) products
• AWOS Field Service and Technical Support
• AWOS NADIN Data Services
• NavAids Field Service
• Road Weather Information System (RWIS) Field Service Maintenance Contracts

“This simplification will allow Vaisala to focus on our global weather technology platforms,” says Antero Jarvinen, Head of Transportation business unit. Vaisala will continue innovating and manufacturing:

• Comprehensive sensor and information services for transportation
• New sensing technologies for the U.S. AWOS application to be sold through DBT
• Remain a leading global supplier of RWIS equipment and information systems

Vaisala and DBT representatives will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition until the transfer of assets on August 1, 2016, when DBT assumes full responsibility of the abovementioned products and services. DBT will also become a strategic partner with Vaisala.

“The opportunity to acquire Vaisala’s North American transportation services assets is a win-win for the customers, employees, Vaisala, and us,” said DBT Chairman, Mike Delk. “We are aligning ourselves with Vaisala and their superior products while delivering outstanding service to the customer.” “We are thrilled to be working with many of the same employees the customers have come to know and trust with Vaisala,” said DBT CEO David Barnes. The shared goal of Vaisala and DBT is that no customer is left behind.

These changes do not mean that Vaisala has begun to leave our airport and roadway customers behind. On the contrary, these changes will allow us to continue to develop new and exciting solutions to weather challenges, which in turn, will make your decision making better, and your operations run smoother as we face the future in transportation together.
