California to Hold 2nd Aviation Day at the Capitol

The second annual California Aviation Day will take place Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. on the north steps of the State Capitol. This event provides a statewide industry opportunity to promote the variety and vitality of aviation in California.

The Association of California Airports (ACA), Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Northern California Business Aviation Association (NCBAA), and California Airport Council (CAC), have partnered with airport directors and aviation businesses to meet with State legislators and discuss the significance of aviation on California’s economy. It is expected that more than 20 organizations will participate and interact with over 500 visitors.

“Last year, at the first California Aviation Awareness Day, the foundation was laid, and many links formed, between Legislators, Legislative Staff, and members of the aviation community,” says Mark Bautista, Past President of ACA and current Deputy General Manager at Monterey Peninsula Airport District. He hopes “for many more successful Aviation Awareness Days to work together on providing funding for the critical aviation needs of California”.

The state is home to approximately 60,000 pilots and 246 public-use airports. The annual economic impact of GA in California is $18 billion, the highest in the United States. As a community, aviation in California brings an annual economic impact of $154.7 billion and employs 1.1 million people throughout the State.

“Due to the successful launch of the first California Aviation Day we’re expecting a significant increase in participation from all facets of aviation this year. This event is supported and brings together the entire aviation community: airports, airlines, aviation businesses, aviators, and enthusiasts. The Association of California Airports (ACA) organizes this event with the intent of encouraging awareness of aviation and to advocate its importance to the economy of California,” states Ron Elliott, President of ACA.
