Airguide Publications, Inc., publishers of Flight Guide iEFB iPad App, announces release of a Portable WiFi GPS, Moving Map & Seamless Charts

Airguide Publications, Inc. announces the release of their new portable GPS for use with Apple’s amazing iPad– Flight Guide FLY-Wi GPS. “We had an overwhelmingly positive response to our Flight Guide iEFB application and wanted to take it to the next level,” said Brenda Garcia, Publisher, Airguide Publications. “We feel that the internal GPS on the iPad is not reliable. It has been known to lose its GPS signal and can even show a wrong position during flight.

The Flight Guide FLY-Wi GPS incorporates an aviation grade WAAS GPS that communicates with the iPad via WiFi, creating a cockpit hot spot! This enables the new Moving Map feature in Flight Guide iEFB to display position on all Sectionals, TACs & IFR Enroute Charts during flight.

This wireless connection allows for iPad mobility in the cockpit. As an added bonus, the Flight Guide FLY-Wi GPS includes an auxiliary jack that in the near future will give pilots the option of integrating XM or ADS-B weather data for display in Flight Guide iEFB!”

Flight Guide FLY-Wi GPS consists of two components: the FLY-Wi wireless transmitter (about the size of an iPhone) and the GPS (about 2” in diameter). Flight Guide FLY-Wi GPS has a battery life of about 8 hours and comes with a standard 110-volt plug. An adapter for 12 or 24 volts is also available.

Airguide Publications, Inc. also announces the release of their new interactive Seamless Charts feature to their popular Flight Guide iEFB Apple iPad application. Now pilots can conveniently scroll across the entire USA without coming to the edge of a chart, making navigation faster and simpler. Charts can also be zoomed in or out using Apple’s standard “pan, pinch & drag” interface.

Finally, by tapping on an airport icon, an airport’s information page will instantly display with the following pertinent information: airport diagram (with taxiways identified), Class B, C & selected D airspace graphics, frequencies (navigation & communication), flight operational information, FBOs (services, location & contact information), current & nearby fuel prices, food, transportation, lodging
and recreational information.
