Aero Club of Southern California to Honor Buzz Aldrin

The Aero Club of Southern California will be holding its annual Howard Hughes Memorial Award Banquet on February 13, 2019. The gala event will be held at the Johnathan Club in downtown Los Angeles and honors the 50th Anniversary of the first maned- flight to the moon. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, one of the first men to walk on the surface of the moon, will be honored as the 40^th Howard Hughes Memorial Award Recipient.

The Howard Hughes Memorial Award honors exceptional leaders who have advanced the fields of aviation or aerospace technology. The Aero Club of Southern California is affiliated with NAA a nationally recognized organization and it is a nonprofit that supports aviation and awards student scholarships annually in the field of Aerospace.

Kim Stevens

Kim Stevens is the publisher of State Aviation Journal, which he founded in 2009. A longtime commercial-rated pilot, he was introduced to state aviation in 1992 as Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, later serving as Deputy Division Director for the Arizona Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division. From 2013 to 2018, he was Director of Communications and Operations for the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) in Washington, D.C. Relocating to North Carolina, Kim worked for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for two years and now concentrates solely on the Journal. Prior to his aviation career, Kim spent a decade in the newspaper and magazine business.
