Tucson International Airport Records Busiest Month Since March 2008

March 2024 marked the busiest month at Tucson International Airport (TUS) in 16 years! With nearly 400,000 passengers flying TUS in March, the airport has seen over 9% growth in year-to-date passenger counts compared to 2023. In addition, the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced airport growth statistics for the top 75 commercial airports in the country; it is no surprise to see TUS on the list as the 4th fastest growing airport in the country.

Eight of the airport’s nonstop destinations saw year-over-year growth with Southwest airlines growing nearly 12% year-over-year. Launching this fall, Southwest Airlines will begin daily nonstop flights to Dallas Love Field (DAL).

Five of the six airlines at TUS saw year-over-year gains in March, led by Southwest, Alaska, and American Airlines.

“We are pleased to see our community and visitors respond so positively to our expanded capacity during our peak season,” said Danette Bewley, President/CEO of the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA).  “We look forward to even more local residents in our growing community making TUS their airport of choice this summer.”

Passenger growth is forecast to continue. This upcoming summer, we expect an additional 45,000 travelers to use TUS compared to last year.  Safety, security, and customer service remain the Tucson Airport Authority’s priorities for our travelers. The Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) appreciates the Southern Arizona community for making TUS part of their travel plans. Help us get the message out to Fly TUS, Fly Local!
