On Saturday June 11, 2016 the Tucson FAASTeam (FAA Safety Team) will hold a first of its kind in the nation safety seminar on UAS. This free seminar is specifically geared to the general public including hobbyist, commercial and government uses“… and all those interested in small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS).
As the use of sUAS continues to grow in the consumer, commercial and government sectors the FAA is responding with new regulations specific to sUAS. As a result hobbyists and commercial users are required to register all sUAS weighing approximately half a pound or more using the FAA online registration system Compliance with this requirement and the resulting safety procedures are easy for the consumer hobbyist to meet. The primary function of the new regulation regarding registration is to help promote a sense of safe use and awareness of the National Air Space (NAS). The official and current FAA information regarding sUAS safe flying practices and integration into the NAS will be presented.
All current or potential users of sUAS are welcome to attend. As an added bonus to this unique safety seminar there will be a major door prize. A new DJI Phantom 2 sUAS (drone) will be awarded by random drawing! All who attend the seminar will receive a FREE raffle ticket as they register at the door on the day of the seminar. The lucky winner must be present to win. Prof. David G. Iadevaia, a Tucson FAASTeam sUAS Representative will give the presentation. Several member of the Tucson aviation community will also be available to answer questions. The door prize was generously donated by Airborne Precision Imaging – Arizona, a Tucson based FAA 333 authorized SUAS Company. The meeting space was provided as a public service by Pima College and the Pima College Aviation Dept, Desert Vista Campus, Thomas Hinman Aviation Technology Advanced Program Manager. The other members of the Tucson FAASTeam responsible for this seminar are Barbara Harper, Howard Deevers and Lee Unger who worked tirelessly to make this event a reality.
