Brian C. Weiler will be stepping down from his position as Multimodal Director for the Missouri Department of 
Transportation to assume the duties of Director of Aviation for the City of Springfield, Missouri and Springfield-Branson National Airport.
Weiler, 45, in his current possition is responsible for state government involvement in aviation, rail, waterways, transit and freight development. Before assuming that role in 2002, Weiler was Administrator of Aviation for MoDOT from 1997-2002. He was director of Aviation for the Johnson County Airport Commission in Johnson County, Kan., from 1995-1997.
Airport Board Chairman, Jim Enyart, who chaired the selection committee, said that Weiler has a proven track record of leadership and airport management, has a firm grasp on the aviation as well as the larger transportation picture as a whole.
Weiler replaces Gary Cyr, who retired in April.
City Manager Greg Burris said that their community is extremely fortunate to have Weiler as their new Director of Aviation because of his proven leadership abilities and his professionalism and experience at the local, state, and national levels.
Weiler served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Air Traffic Controller from 1984 to 1987 before being honorably discharged. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master’s degree in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri. He managed airports for the City of St. Joseph and Martin County, Fla., in the 1990s.
Weiler holds a private pilot’s license and has been an adjunct instructor at the University of Central Missouri since 1992. Weiler is married with four children.
Weiler’s anticipated start date will be August 1, 2011. His annual salary will be $117,312. In addition, this position is a part of the Department Head Occupational Series that will include an additional increase of 2 percent to the current base salary.
