The South Carolina Aviation Association (SCAA) will be hosting its third annual Southeast Aviation Expo on Friday and Saturday, September 27- 28, 2013. Officials with the SCAA and Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) announced National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) President and CEO, Ed Bolen will be a featured speaker. Paul Werts, Executive Director with the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission (SCAC) stated, “SCAC promotes aviation safety events such as FAA Wings Programs and Aviation Safety Council seminars, but this event places special emphasis on public awareness of general aviation. It is a must attend event for both novice recreational pilots to career pilots. The event displays aviation products, services, and aircraft ownership, along with holds educational sessions for aviation users and support groups. Although the Southeast Aviation Expo is a fairly young event, the event is being held at one of South Carolina’s premiere airports nestled in the industrial beltway of South Carolina between two major commercial cities – Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina.”

"Ed Bolen’s presentation at the Friday, September 27 session will focus on business aviation usage, making it an important component of the SEAE event, which will have something for everyone,” added Joe Frasher, Manager of the Greenville Downtown Airport. “For example, the focus of our sessions on Saturday, September 28th will be more towards the personal use of aviation, which is similar to other recreational user groups like boat or motorhome owners. Saturday’s key note speaker will be former Blue Angel pilot Scott "Yogi" Beare.
Beare’s formal education includes a B.A. and M. B.A. from George Washington University. He has authored two books: 1)Yogi Beare! Values of a Blue Angel, an inspiring story of how personal values build character to overcome hardship and drive success; and 2) The Power of Teamwork, inspired by the ultimate team, that highlights key principles of teamwork embraced by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels.
Highlights of Beare’s life include nuclear engineering, naval aviation, and Vice President of Operations and Manufacturing of a start-up of a high-tech venture that generated over $170M in revenue in only their second year of operation. Beare currently flies for Southwest Airlines.
“The Southeast Aviation Expo provides the only pilot focused tradeshow in South Carolina.” said Bill New, SCAA President. Our association’s main goal is to focus on an event to reach out to pilots in South Carolina and neighboring states by providing pilot education and offering an opportunity to see products and services. The SCAA is excited to partner once again with the Greenville Downtown Airport to produce this year’s expo event.”
“We hope to grow this event each year. Our goal is to one day be as big as the Northwest Aviation Conference & Trade Show in Washington State; that event has been in existence for 29 years and pulls about 12,000 attendees!" Frasher added.
