Belfort Instrument Company is in the process of obtaining a purchase order from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Aero Bureau for a Belfort AWOS AV in support of their aviation department.
The Belfort Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS AV) will provide the LA county pilots with Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Wind Gusts, Temperature, Humidity, Dew point, Altimeter Setting, Density Altitude, Visibility, and Cloud Height. The AWOS system is to be installed at the Helistop at Pebbly Beach on Santa Catalina Island. The Santa Catalina Island AWOS information will be available via VHF broadcast, telephone, as well as over the internet.
“The new Belfort AWOS installation on Santa Catalina Island is an important step in providing emergency medical access to all the citizens on the island by allowing the reporting of real time weather conditions on the island enhancing EMS flight operations.”, this according to Sgt. Morrie C. Zager, Aero Bureau, he continues, “ Our Aero Bureau had the cooperation of Air Methods, one of the largest provider of EMS AeroMedical services in helping to install the optional cloud height sensor to the AWOS. This total package provides total weather reporting in support of safer flight operations day and night.”
