Geico Skytypers to Honor Military Veterans at Thunder Over the Boardwalk

skytypers 2edit.jpg Behind every great fighter pilot is the plane that taught him to fly: one of these is the vintage North American SNJ-2. Philadelphia and Atlantic City airshow fans will get a first-hand glimpse of the famous World War II trainer and the air-combat tactics and maneuvers that helped win World War II and the Korean War.

The 75-year-old planes flown by the GEICO Skytypers airshow team demonstrate low-altitude, precision-formation techniques demanded of Allied pilots flying missions everywhere from Korea to Kenya. For Atlantic City’s Thunder Over the Boardwalk, two of the Skytypers’ planes will also race the 7-time World Champion Miss GEICO speedboat. The Miss GEICO team won the Unlimited Extreme class during the Atlantic City Offshore Grand Prix in June.

“Most of our team earned their wings in the military and we always pay tribute to the brave pilots of the ‘Greatest Generation,’ ” says Steve Kapur, GEICO Skytyper pilot and team marketing officer. “We consider it a privilege to inspire kids, honor veterans and fly these warbirds on behalf of GEICO at air shows all across the U.S.”

The Atlantic City Airshow, Thunder Over the Boardwalk is Atlantic City’s signature summer event. Produced by the Greater Atlantic City Chamber, the AC Airshow is the single, largest FREE event on Atlantic City’s summer calendar, and the largest airshow of its kind. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are back and other headliners include the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.
