Administrator Babbitt to Address Alternative Aviation Fuels Group

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Randy Babbitt will open the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI) General Meeting on Wednesday, Sept 30 at 9 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place, N.W.

CAAFI is sponsored by the FAA, Air Transport Association (ATA), Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), and Airports Council International (ACI)-North America. The initiative seeks to enhance energy resources and environmental sustainability for aviation through alternative jet fuels. The group is a coalition of U.S. commercial aviation stakeholders that includes representatives from the commercial aviation industry, fuel suppliers, universities, and multiple U.S. government agencies. The Washington meeting of CAAFI will include speakers and panels that will focus on:  “Alternative Fuel Certification Status and Plans;” an “Overview of Environmental Challenges for Airlines related to Alternative Fuels;” “Alternative Fuel Life-Cycle Assessment and Air Quality;” and an “Overview of Airline Energy and Economics.”  At 12 Noon the luncheon keynote speaker will be United Air Lines President, Chairman and CEO Glen F. Tilton who will be introduced by ATA President and CEO James C. May.
