Evansville Airport to lose manager, gains runway extension

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the Evansville Regional Airport’s plan to extend its main runway. This on the heels of the news that long time airport manager Bob Working, who has been manager at Evansville Regional Airport since 1986, will be retiring from the job next month.

Derrick Stewart, chairman of the airport’s board of directors, said Working has done a fine job. Workman notified the board last week of his intent to retire.
The airport wants to remove about 2,415 feet of pavement from the southwest end of the main runway and rebuild the same length of pavement on the northeast end. The project is intended to improve safety and bring the runway into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration rules.
Airport officials can now start paying engineers to furnish more complete designs of the proposed extension and to buy the land needed for the project.
