AVL Opens Registration for Runway 5K; Proceeds to Benefit Local Aviation Scholarships and Non-Profit

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) will host its annual Runway 5K on Saturday, August 17, where runners and walkers will make their way down Taxiway Bravo while planes take off and land on the adjacent runway. All participants must pre-register. The event is limited to 1,000 racers/walkers and sells out every year. (Spectators are not required to register.)

To guarantee a race t-shirt, participants must register no later than 9pm August 6. After that, t-shirts are available while supplies last. Race registration will close 9pm August 14.

The Runway 5K raises funds to support local aviation scholarships administered by both A-B Tech Department of Aviation and the Western North Carolina Pilots Association Educational Foundation, as well as funds to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC.

The event will take place on the north end of the airfield, with parking in a nearby area. All participants will be shuttled to the event site, which is in a secure area near the airfield. Food trucks offering coffee, pastries and donuts will be at the event, as well as music, merchandise, special photo opportunities and more.

The AVL Runway 5K is brought to the region in partnership with Hunter Subaru, Gresham Smith, Hensel Phelps, and Paradies Lagardere. Additional sponsors to date include: Avcon, SM&E, CHA and Tennoca.
