Last week, NATA member Joby Aviation announced that it had received a Special Airworthiness Certificate from the FAA for its first production-prototype eVTOL aircraft, allowing the company to proceed to flight testing. NATA President and CEO Curt Castagna joined in the celebration, which included a tour of Joby’s Marina Airport facility and flight demonstrations of its all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger service. “NATA congratulates the team at Joby Aviation on this tremendous achievement and appreciates their engagement with key industry and governmental participants at our Air Charter Summit on June 22 and as a member of our AAM Committee. These discussions demonstrate our collective devotion to the limitlessness of aviation’s advancement,” said Castagna.
Castagna also participated in an Advanced Air Mobility Interagency Working Group (AAM IWG) Executive Roundtable, where he shared AAM issues of critical importance to NATA’s membership as well as the association’s recommendations for AAM national strategy. The Roundtable, held at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA, provided an important forum to highlight the work of NATA’s AAM Committee in helping to ensure a unified approach to the modernization of both the infrastructure and operational frameworks. Castagna noted the critical importance of communication, collaboration, and cooperation between government partners and all aviation sector stakeholders in creating a healthy and vibrant AAM ecosystem.
