The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) released its latest AOPA Presents mini-documentary, “Wiiings Not Required,” featuring Aaron Fitzgerald—one of the world’s only helicopter aerobatic pilots and a standout performer with the Red Bull Air Force team.
This marks the third installment in the AOPA Presents series, produced entirely by AOPA’s in-house cinematographers. Each film highlights unique aviation stories through stunning visuals and compelling narratives that showcase the passion and diversity of the flying community.
“Wiiings Not Required” was filmed and edited by AOPA Video Content Producer Brianna Cabassa, with additional cinematography by Jamal Warner. They joined Fitzgerald both in rehearsal flights over Southern California and during a high-energy performance at the Aviation Nation air show at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada in April.
“Experiencing aerobatics firsthand in the Red Bull helicopter with Aaron was exhilarating,” said Cabassa. “It was technically challenging to film but also a thrill to capture something so precise and uncommon in the world of aviation.”
AOPA members can dive deeper into Fitzgerald’s story and adventures in a story by Alicia Herron the July issue of AOPA Pilot, which will begin arriving in mailboxes by mid-month.
“There are so many incredible stories in aviation, and AOPA has been honored to tell them over the years,” said AOPA Senior Vice President of Publications Kollin Stagnito. “The AOPA Presents series has resonated deeply with our audience, thanks to its powerful storytelling and high production value. I’m proud of our team for bringing these stories to life.”
