AAAE/IAAE Offers New Online Certification Program for International Airport Employees

The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE), an affiliate organization of AAAE, with support from Corporación Quiport S.A. in Ecuador, operator of Quito International Airport, have announced the new International Aerodrome Certified Employee (IACE) online training and certification program, based on International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 14.

Annex 14 training topics covered in the course include safety management systems, aerodrome key elements, airfield physical characteristics, aerodrome operations and maintenance, obstructions, environmental issues related to aerodrome operations, visual aids for navigation and security issues related to airport operations, among other topics. Airport employees who successfully complete the training program will receive the IACE designation. The course is available in both English and Spanish and utilizes an online format that the student can complete on his or her own schedule.

“AAAE and IAAE are proud of the new International Aerodrome Certified Employee online certification program, which delivers top-notch online training to airport employees around the world that will improve safety, streamline operations and enhance the passenger experience at their facilities,” AAAE Chair Jeanne Olivier, A.A.E., ACE, Assistant Director, Aviation Security and Technology at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and IAAE Co-Chair Jeff Mulder, A.A.E., Executive Director at the Lee County Port Authority, said in a joint statement. “This training course would not have been possible without our strong and valued partnership with Quiport, and we thank Director of Operations Allan Padilla for his leadership in this area.”

“The IACE program is a great course,” said Padilla. “It provided excellent tools for all of our staff in implementing the procedures required by ICAO to make our airport better and safer. I strongly recommend this course to other airports around the world.”

The new IACE training program was made possible under a “Memorandum of Training Partnership” that AAAE/IAAE signed with Quiport in 2015 to set a standard for international training of a wide range of airport employees. With nearly 70 years of experience, AAAE is the world’s largest provider of interactive training for employees at airports of all sizes throughout the United States.
