As current Aviation Director Bobby Walston’s retirement date draws near, the process has begun to recruit a new Aviation Director. “While we go through that process, I have named [Rebecca] Becca Gallas as our Interim Aviation Director,” noted Julie White, Deputy Secretary for Multimodal Transportation with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. “During her 10-year career, Becca has served the NCDOT in a variety of capacities including in the Chief Engineer’s Office and most recently in the Structures Management Unit in the Division of Highways.”
Ms. Gallas has led several strategic statewide initiatives around financial transparency, workforce modernization, data governance and innovation implementation. During her tenure as lead of the Department’s innovation programs, NCDOT was awarded FHWA’s State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC) Excellence Award, which recognizes states that have demonstrated success in fostering a strong culture for innovation within their transportation communities.
Although her career has primarily been in Highways, Gallas has collaborated with the Multimodal Transportation Divisions, including the Division of Aviation, on several projects, most recently the strategic plan for shared autonomous mobility. She is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a licensed Professional Engineer.
