The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has awarded Richmond County Airport $745,000 for safety improvements.
The grant will help the airport replace its outdated lighting system with an LED system. Project bids are expected to open to contractors by June 8.
Richmond County Airport is one North Carolina’s 72 public airports that connect people and cargo to global markets. The airport is located three miles south of the city of Rockingham and west of the city of Hamlet. It annually contributes $4.7 million in economic impact, supports 35 jobs in the community and returns $193,000 in state and local taxes.
