State Aviation Officials Participate in AASHTO Committee

A number of state aviation officials participated last week in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standing Committee on Aviation held in conjunction with the organization’s 2011 Spring Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Presenters for the three hour meeting included Catherine (Kate) Lang, FAA, Henry Ogrodzinski, President and CEO of the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO), Lisa Piccione, Senior Vice President Government Affairs for the National Business Aviation Association, NBAA and Selena Shilad, Executive Director for Alliance for Aviation Across America. Chairman Paul A. Mattox, Jr., Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Transportation provided opening remarks and introduced Mark Suman, Air Service Development Administrator for McCarran International Airport, who gave a brief overview on the airport and welcomed attendees to Las Vegas.

State aviation directors in attendance were Susan Chernenko, West Virginia and Tommy Booth, Mississippi plus numerous others who participated via teleconference.

Kim Stevens

Kim Stevens is the publisher of State Aviation Journal, which he founded in 2009. A longtime commercial-rated pilot, he was introduced to state aviation in 1992 as Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, later serving as Deputy Division Director for the Arizona Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division. From 2013 to 2018, he was Director of Communications and Operations for the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) in Washington, D.C. Relocating to North Carolina, Kim worked for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for two years and now concentrates solely on the Journal. Prior to his aviation career, Kim spent a decade in the newspaper and magazine business.
