Arkansas Division of Aeronautics Awards 2024 Airport and Airport Manager of the Year

The Jonesboro Municipal Airport and Johnathan Estes, Manager of South Arkansas Regional Airport, have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to Arkansas general aviation with the 2024 Airport of the Year and Manager of the Year Awards, presented by the Arkansas Division of Aeronautics (ADA) during the Arkansas Airport Operators Association (AAOA) Annual Conference. The awards were formally presented at the AAOA Annual Conference, where state industry stakeholders gather to celebrate general aviation in Arkansas. The event was held in Eureka Springs from September 16-18.

The Manager of the Year Award honors an individual whose leadership, dedication, and service have made a significant impact on the aviation community. As a dedicated and active promoter of South Arkansas Regional Airport and an active AAOA member, Johnathan goes above and beyond typical airport manager duties. His commitment to professional and economic development serves as a valuable source of information and support for fellow airport managers.

The Airport of the Year Award is presented to an airport that excels in several key areas, including safety, community involvement, and strategic planning. The Jonesboro Municipal Airport has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to improving and promoting safety, especially after rebuilding to a higher standard following the 2020 tornado, which directly impacted operations at the airport. With strategic plans for runway expansion and a new terminal, it has fostered growth through significant local, state, and federal partnerships. Additionally, its role as a commercial service airport enhances its importance within the state and national aviation systems.

During the conference, the Arkansas Aeronautics Commission also gathered for their September meeting. Commissioners approved grants totaling $2.5 million for 10 airports.
