Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is among airports throughout North America that will recognize workers on Airport Workers Day, June 25.

Airport Workers Day shows appreciation for the people who help keep airports operational, passengers and cargo moving, and the economy of the state running. Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports make up the Phoenix Airport System.
Phoenix Sky Harbor plays a critical role as an employment center for more than 47,000 people across the Phoenix metro area, and workers earned more than $4.8 billion that stayed in their Valley communities, representing a significant economic impact and contribution to the local tax base.
“Airport workers are the backbone of air travel, from the folks you see at the ticket counters to the assistants helping passengers get to the gates, to the workers who conduct maintenance overnight, to the friendly faces smiling even at the end of a long shift,” said Aviation Director Chad Makovsky. “We are proud of all of them and we are pleased to recognize Airport Workers Day to give them their due.”

Phoenix Sky Harbor will spotlight employees and their airport jobs on its social media channels, newsletters, and on the skyharbor.com Employee Spotlight webpage the week of June 22 to give the public a closer look at the talented and varied workforce that keeps our airports running smoothly and safely.
On June 25, Phoenix Sky Harbor will hold an event to celebrate the thousands of employees in the Phoenix Airport System with games and treats, a photo booth, and visits from Navigator Buddies. Members of the public will also be able to leave notes of goodwill on large message boards at information counters in the terminals.
“We hear from customers all the time when they have something complimentary to say about our employees,” Makovsky said. “Our ‘On the FLY’ recognition program was created for guests and colleagues to nominate employees who impressed them with superior customer service.”

On the FLY stands for F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You, and is one way to nominate airport employees who provide excellent customer service. Guests and other employees can email skyharbor@phoenix.gov with details of an employee demonstrating the standards of America’s Friendliest Airport®.
The Phoenix Aviation System thrives on the collaboration of a highly skilled workforce. From airfield safety experts to customer care professionals, every team member plays a critical part in connecting people and places around the world. New employees are always sought.
