After more than 26 incredible years in the aviation industry – including 15 years dedicated to Scottsdale Airport – Aviation Director Gary P. Mascaro is retiring.

With Gary’s leadership, Scottsdale Airport has flourished, experiencing significant growth and national recognition as one of the premier general aviation airports in the country. His collaborative approach, strategic foresight, and unwavering dedication have made him a respected figure among colleagues, partners, and aviation professionals. His impact has been felt far beyond Scottsdale – Gary has served on numerous aviation boards at both the local and national levels, influencing policies and advancements within the broader aviation community.
Gary’s tenure has been marked by innovation and excellence. Under his guidance, the airport successfully served as a hub for two high-profile Super Bowls events in 2015 and 2023. His leadership was instrumental in securing funding for the Terminal Area Redevelopment Project, which introduced the new Aviation Business Center Building, two executive hangars, and enhanced infrastructure to support future expansion. This is just a small sampling of some of Gary’s biggest achievements during his time at Scottsdale Airport.
“Gary’s years of dedicated leadership at Scottsdale Airport have left an indelible mark on our community and the aviation industry,” said Judy Doyle, Senior Director of Enterprise Operations, who oversees the airport division. “His unwavering commitment, expertise and vision have shaped the growth and success of our airport, and we are deeply grateful for his remarkable contributions.”
As Gary is preparing for his last day, Wednesday, May 21, Rick Wielebski will step in as interim Aviation Director. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Gary for all his contributions, hard work, and dedication as he embarks on this exciting new chapter.
