Consultant Team Begins Update to Phoenix Goodyear Airport Master Plan

The consultant team made up of members from Armstrong Consultants Inc., Kimley-Horn and Associates, Genesis Consulting Group, Woolpert, and Class V Communications has begun work on an update to Phoenix Goodyear Airport’s master plan. The existing airport master plan was completed in 2007 prior to the economic downturn which followed in 2008. The airport, like the rest of the economy, has steadily made gains over the past nine years. In order to accurately reflect the current aviation activities and growth at the airport and in the surrounding community, a new airport master plan is needed.

The master planning process is designed to enhance airport safety and efficiency, and outline potential development of the airport for businesses and airport users. The final document will provide short- and long-term goals for development at the airport and will also identify potential funding sources for infrastructure improvements. The result of this process will improve overall aviation activities while positioning the airport for growth in the future.

Community engagement will be emphasized throughout the master planning process and will include the formation of advisory committees whose input will directly influence planning decisions at the airport. Community members will also be invited to observe and ask questions about the development of the master plan update through a series of public meetings.

“The master plan will serve as a roadmap for the future development of the airport,” said Charlie McDermott, Project Manager at Armstrong Consultants. “Our team is ready to spend the next 12 to 18 months working with the communities to make sure the master plan meets the needs of a growing city.”

The consultant team members are all located in the Valley, and therefore have a greater understanding of the local communities and the role aviation plays in it. The experience, dedication, and specialized areas of expertise of this combined consultant team were among the reasons for its selection to complete this master plan update. The consultant team, led by Armstrong Consultants, is confident it will generate an updated plan designed to carry the Phoenix Goodyear Airport – and the community it serves – into the future.
