US aviation services company, Landmark Aviation, are modernizing their safety data management processes with the help of Q-Pulse from Gael. The Texas-based company offers fixed base operations at more than 40 locations in the US and Canada as well as a number in Europe. They are also participants in the FAA Safety & Management Systems Pilot Project.
Prior to Q-Pulse, Landmark managed their safety and quality processes using a number of different paper-based and off-the-shelf IT solutions. However, with increasing regulatory demands and impending SMS obligations, Landmark recognized the need for a more flexible safety management solution.
Launched throughout the company in June 2012, Q-Pulse was selected to dramatically improve how system safety and quality was managed and to enable a more robust measurement and analysis of safety performance indicators.
Eric Lugger, Landmark’s Director of Safety said they are developing a strong safety culture throughout our operation but managing safety data is increasingly challenging. Prior to Q-Pulse, Lugger said it was difficult to analyze safety reports for trends. "If we wanted to analyze the record for towing mishaps, we’d have to search for a number of terms such as ‘towing, tow, tow bar and tow-bar’, so you can imagine the issues this created."
Lugger added that in terms of their end users, the interface reflects a similar layout to the Microsoft Office products already in use, which makes it easy for them to pick up and use.
"We are committed to a non-punitive SMS culture and we encourage our employees to report hazards as they arise."
