AAAE Elects Leaders for 2013-14 at 85th Annual Conference and Exposition

Mark Brewer, A.A.E., Airport Director of the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, took office May 22 as Chair of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) for 2013-2014. Brewer was one of six Executive Committee Members elected by the AAAE membership during the 85th Annual AAAE Conference and Exposition, held May 19-22 in Reno, Nevada and hosted by the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

"The outstanding and diverse group of volunteer leaders selected by their peers to lead AAAE over the next year are incredibly well-suited to carry on the rich tradition of service and dedication that has been a hallmark of the association for more than eight decades," AAAE CEO Chip Barclay said. "AAAE is fortunate to have so many talented executives from airports of all sizes and all parts of the country willing to step up and chart a course for the next year and beyond."

Joining Brewer on the Executive Committee are First Vice Chair Randall Berg A.A.E., Director of Airport Operations, Salt Lake City Department of Airports; Second Vice Chair Jeffrey Mulder, A.A.E., Airport Director, Tulsa Airport Authority; and Secretary/Treasurer Carl Newman, A.A.E., General Manager, Houston Airport System. Bruce Carter, A.A.E., Director of Aviation at the Quad City International Airport, will serve as AAAE’s First Past Chair, and Kelly L. Johnson, A.A.E., Airport Director of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, serves as Second Past Chair.

Also at the conference, outgoing-Chair Bruce Carter, A.A.E., awarded the 2013 AAAE Chair’s Award to Jeanne Olivier, A.A.E., Assistant Aviation Director for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. In his remarks, Carter cited Olivier’s "stellar record of service at the chapter and national level." The Chair’s Award is given at the discretion of the AAAE Chair in honor of an individual’s outstanding contribution to the airport management profession and to AAAE.

Over 1,500 aviation industry leaders, representing more than 250 airports, attended the 85th Annual AAAE Conference and Exposition. The agenda featured Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, Representative Mark Amodei (R-NV), Andy Wirth, President and C.E.O. of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC, Bob Montgomery, Vice President of Airport Affairs at Southwest Airlines Co., Maury Gallagher, C.E.O. of Allegiant Airlines, and senior executives from across the aviation industry, key government officials from FAA, TSA and NTSB, and others.

The 86th Annual AAAE Conference & Exposition will take place May 18-21, 2014, in San Antonio Texas. The San Antonio Airport System will host the event.
