North Carolina airports have received over $29 million from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program for terminal upgrades and improvements that will enhance passengers’ experiences and create quality jobs in the aviation industry.
“North Carolina airports are essential connectors for communities, businesses and economic growth across the state,” said Becca Gallas, director of the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation. “This funding allows us to continue making vital infrastructure improvements to meet the needs of our communities and travelers, ensuring we keep pace with future demand and offer an elevated experience at our airports.”
The FAA program, which is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, made the announcement last week, as part of its ongoing initiative to invest in airports, and improve the economy and the nation’s transportation network.
The NCDOT Division of Aviation will help administer the grants to the following North Carolina Airports:
Laurinburg-Maxton Airport
Awarded $1 million to help replace the general aviation terminal. This will enhance services for private and business aviation users.
“The upgraded terminal will allow us to better serve our community and visitors, providing a more welcoming and functional space for pilots and passengers,” said Guy McCook, Chair of the Board at Laurinburg-Maxton Airport. “This investment is a big step forward in supporting both local travel and business development.”
Wilkes County Airport
Awarded $1.5 million to help replace the airport’s general aviation terminal and support growing regional air travel needs.
“The new terminal will provide a more efficient, comfortable experience for travelers and strengthen our role as a local economic hub,” said John Yates, Wilkes County Manager. “This upgrade marks a commitment to our community and its continued growth.”
Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport also received funding to support expansion and modernization projects, aimed at increasing capacity and enhancing passenger services.
The Airport Terminal Program, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, dedicates $1 billion annually over five years to modernize airport terminals across the nation. This transformative law has provided over $415 billion to improve America’s critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, transit and airports.
