Avionics for NextGen: Paving the way for Implementation
Despite major budgetary and program hurdles in 2011, FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) stands poised to deliver major operational benefits to users of the National Airspace System (NAS) in the coming years.
Most NAS users agree the NextGen program is needed to ensure operational safety and efficiency and to improve the environment. FAA promises NextGen is a better way to do business for the agency, airlines, airports and the traveling public. But beyond the promises of benefits, questions remain about the multi-billion-dollar program’s business case, global harmonization, specifications for onboard and ground equipment and various deadlines. These questions are becoming particularly urgent as the 2020 equipage deadline looms.
Avionics for NextGen brings together hundreds of aviation professionals responsible for driving the future of NextGen technologies to discuss their experiences, challenges and solutions with the implementation of these technologies.
