Senior Project Manager (TRANS PROJ SPEC – SR) – TDOT Aeronautics Division

The Tennessee Department of Transportation, Aeronautics Division, is seeking an experienced project manager who is customer oriented and driven to complete projects within budget, on time and with high standards implemented. This individual will be responsible for monitoring aviation engineering projects from project inception through project closeout.

Summary of Job Duties:

  • Work with local municipalities and airport authorities to assist with the development of grant requests
  • Ensure Federal Aviation Administration and TDOT grant compliance
  • For assigned airport projects, contribute oversight during the design phase to ensure FAA and state standards and requirements are met
  • Work with the assigned airport during the bidding of construction plans and throughout the construction phase to ensure the project is completed in accordance with all plans and specifications
  • Monitor the aviation project engineering and construction budget to help prevent unnecessary budget overages and time delays
  • Provide oversight of contract billing
  • Provide technical guidance to the airport sponsor or sponsor’s representative during all phases airport construction
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must have pavement construction experience; experience with airfield pavement construction preferred
  • Must have experience with earthwork and drainage projects; additionally, experience writing, reviewing, or processing construction change orders
  • Project management or project delivery experience with ability to effectively manage multi-project deadlines
  • Must have strong written and verbal presentation skills
  • Supervisory skills
  • Travel is required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
  • Experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional engineering work that may include student assistant or college seasonal civil engineering work with the State of Tennessee

OR

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EI/PE Certification
  • Supervisory skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel with occasional overnight stays

Kim Stevens

Kim Stevens is the publisher of State Aviation Journal, which he founded in 2009. A longtime commercial-rated pilot, he was introduced to state aviation in 1992 as Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, later serving as Deputy Division Director for the Arizona Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division. From 2013 to 2018, he was Director of Communications and Operations for the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) in Washington, D.C. Relocating to North Carolina, Kim worked for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for two years and now concentrates solely on the Journal. Prior to his aviation career, Kim spent a decade in the newspaper and magazine business.
